Chief Romito was among the more than seventy police officers from a total of seven federal, state, and local agencies who were killed when terrorists crashed two of four hijacked planes into the World Trade Center towers in New York City on the morning of September 11, 2001. Chief Romito had just celebrated his 30th anniversary with the New York/New Jersey Port Authority Police Department.
