Every year, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) gives its top honor — the Distinguished Service Award — to an individual or organization that has made an exceptional and lasting contribution to the law enforcement profession. For 2005 recipient Motorola, this honor has been more than seven decades in the making.

“From its inception in the 1920s to its network for the 21st century, Motorola has always worked hand-in-hand with law enforcement officers striving to protect public safety,” said NLEOMF CEO Craig Floyd. “And although this award comes from the Memorial Fund as a national organization, our support is undoubtedly echoed among the hundreds of state, local and federal agencies and officers we serve.”

Representatives of Motorola accepted the award at the annual Candlelight Vigil on Friday, May 13 at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial located on E Street, between 4th and 5th Streets, NW. They were joined by a crowd of nearly 20,000 law enforcement officers, and families and friends of the law enforcement community.

Motorola received the honor in appreciation for its success in equipping law enforcement officers nationwide with the technology and insight to prepare and respond to today’s most pressing public safety challenges. From linking thousands of police, fire and emergency personnel throughout sprawling communities to providing officers instant information about criminal suspects to tracking and speeding responses for emergency services requests, Motorola’s products and services are vital for enabling law enforcement officers to protect lives, property and civic order.

“This honor highlights Motorola’s long-standing commitment to local, state and national law enforcement,” said Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL). “Given the highly selective and prestigious nature of the award, I am proud to join in congratulating Motorola on this achievement.”

“As only the second corporation to receive this prestigious award, I want to commend Motorola for their exceptional contribution to the law enforcement profession,” said Congressman Mark Kirk (R-IL). “As corporate sponsors to the National Law Enforcement Museum and the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, Motorola’s commitment to the Law Enforcement Community is second to none.”

“We are tremendously honored by this recognition,” said Jim Sarallo, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Motorola’s North America Group. “For more than sixty-five years we’ve taken great pride in providing mission critical communications to the law enforcement communities. We admire the work they do each and every day, and it’s also our honor to serve as a trusted partner and continue to build upon this relationship.”
