Prior to National Police Week each year, the names of the law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty in the preceding year and years prior are engraved on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.

Our research team spends months planning for and templating out the location of each name being added. With that work completed, the engravers are now ready to begin carefully engraving the names of these heroes. An adhesive stencil of names is laid on the panel to ensure engravings will be made at the proper distance. The stencil is then surrounded by protective materials and sandblasted from multiple angles to create each individual letter until an entire line of names is complete. The process repeats until all names are fully engraved, which can take several weeks to complete.

This year, 556 Names are being added to the walls of the Memorial. When the engraving process is completed, a total of 23,785 names will be engraved on the sacred walls of our Memorial. While our living Memorial will continue to add new names well into the future, we hope to pause on the first day of engraving to contemplate and remember the staggering number of officers to date, who have sacrificed everything in service to their communities and this country.

Please join the Board of Directors, staff, members of congress, law enforcement supporters, and members of the public to commence the 2023 engraving process in a brief ceremony.

The ceremony begins promptly at 10am Eastern.

Event registration closed.
