Join users of the CALEB Network (the Community Alliances and Law Enforcement Bulletin platform) for a discussion about the Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion (LEAD) Program—a unique process that ultimately can improve relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
The “Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion” program, or LEAD, reduces reliance on the formal criminal justice system by focusing on better engaging public health support. When individuals are directed to find the support they need—for addiction, untreated mental illness, homelessness, and extreme poverty—they’re more likely to find real behavioral change, rather than being stuck in the criminal justice cycle. Building community bridges, connecting law enforcement with appropriate public health services, and empowering officers to recommend those services can improve the care law enforcement provides for their communities.

Roundtable attendees will hear from Sharon Sayles-Belton, VP of Partnerships and Alliances for Thomson Reuters and former mayor of Minneapolis, about the adoption of the LEAD Program in Minneapolis and the potential of this program in your community.
