On August 10, 2022, K-9 Officer Burton was shot and critically wounded during a traffic stop of a moped. Officer Burton’s assistance was requested to stop a suspect whom they believe was in possession of narcotics. Officer Burton deployed her canine partner who indicated the presence of narcotics. The suspect pulled out a firearm during the search and shot Officer Burton. She was transported to the hospital and succumbed to her gunshot wounds on September 18, 2022.
