Police Officer Darian Jarrot was shot and killed during a traffic stop while assisting Homeland Security Investigations. The suspect shot Officer Jarrot after being pulled over and was later killed by responding officers. Another officer was shot during the incident, but was treated and released from the hospital. Officer Jarrot is the 8th officer to be shot and killed this year and the first officer fatality from the state of New Mexico in 2021.
