Deputy Sheriff Lappin was shot when he responded to a disturbance call. The impaired suspect was making death threats to a merchant that he owed money to. The merchant learned of the threats made against him and called for the deputy. Deputy Lappin was shot in the head as he approached the suspect and died at the scene. The suspect was taken into custody and charged with murder.
