Night Marshal Loucks suffered a heart attack after a struggle with two suspects in front of a tavern. Marshal Loucks answered a disturbance call where four impaired suspects were having a dispute with a tavern owner who refused to serve one of them due to their age. Marshal Loucks and a deputy subdued the suspect and was taking them to the jail when he collapsed and died at the scene. The suspects were taken into custody and charged with public intoxication and disturbing the peace.
