On August 16, 1991, Airman Lucas sustained fatal injuries during a joint training exercise at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam. Airman Lucas was taking part in a training exercise when a Marine tossed a concussive device which exploded at her feet. Airman Lucas was transported to the hospital where she died four days later during surgery to amputate her foot on August 20th. Airman Lucas was a member of the 633rd Air Base Wing Security Police Squadron.
