On May 1, 1910, Constable Mauger arrested a suspect who was disturbing the peace during Greek Easter celebrations in Schuykill County. As Constable Mauger took the suspect into custody, he was surrounded by several men who demanded that he release the suspect. Constable Mauger refused, drew his weapon and fired, and fatally shot one of the men. The crowd attacked Constable Mauger, gained control of his weapon, and shot him with his own gun. Constable Mauger was transported to the hospital where he died of his injuries three days later on May 4th. His assailant was taken into custody.
