On February 12, 2022, Deputy Sheriff Phillips suffered a fatal medical emergency following an arrest during a traffic enforcement stop. Deputy Phillips initially pulled the driver over using emergency lights and discovered the driver had an active warrant for her arrest. Deputy Phillips was transported to a hospital and passed away. Less than 24 hours prior to the medical episode, Deputy Phillips assisted with the arrest of an uncooperative intoxicated suspect at a local restaurant.
