Sergeant Pippin contracted COVID-19 during the commission of his job duties while on patrol. Six of his colleagues also fell ill with the virus. Sergeant Pippin tested positive for the virus on July 15, 2021, and was immediately hospitalized. Sergeant Pippin remained in the hospital and on a ventilator until his death on September 8, 2021.
