Private 1st Class Van Etten was on routine patrol at the U.S. Capitol power plant when he collapsed. Private Van Etten was transported to the hospital where he died due to a heart attack. Private Van Etten, along with other fellow officers, were working 12-hour shifts with limited time off due to the 9-11 terrorist attacks and the anthrax attacks in the House office buildings.
