On July 23, 2025, Police Officer Wagner was ambushed and shot while seated inside his patrol vehicle. Officer Wagner and another officer were eating lunch in their patrol vehicles when they were ambushed. A third officer was also shot during the incident. Officer Wagner was transported to a hospital where he succumbed to his gunshot wounds the following day.
