Staff Sergeant Terry Wright, Airman 1st Class Larry Hughes, Sergeant David Cloe, Airman Johnny Brock, Sergeant Bernard Blake, and Sergeant Glen Wilson died in a helicopter accident while en route to begin routine changeover of security personnel for guard duty. All were USAF Security Policemen assigned to the 821st Security Police Squadron at Ellsworth AFB in South Dakota. The investigation concluded that mechanical issues caused the UH-1F helicopter to crash in an open field in South Dakota. The only survivor was the helicopter pilot.
