The classic 1980s police drama T.J. Hooker, starring William Shatner and Adrian Zmed, premiered this week in 1982. William Shatner traded in his phaser for a real gun in this thrilling drama about a 15-year veteran detective who put himself back in uniform on the streets to help fight crime. He teamed up with rookie cop Vince Romano (Adrian Zmed) to teach him a thing or two about policing.
Any law enforcement officer will tell you that there’s a world of difference between Hollywood cops and the real thing, but for many members of the public, TV shows and movies shape how law enforcement officers are perceived. These shows give people a glimpse, accurate or not, into what it’s like to be “on the beat” in America’s cities.
