Memorial Fund and MAGLITE® Present Hero Award to Outside the Wire in Blue Authors on Thursday, August 22

Washington, DC—The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, in partnership with MAGLITE, will present a Hero Award to authors David Shearman and James “JT” Taman on behalf of all of those who served in the Law Enforcement Professionals Program, including five who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

The award ceremony will take place on Thursday, August 22 at 10 am at the St. Petersburg (FL) Police Department Headquarters.
In addition to co-authoring the book, Outside the Wire in Blue, retired American police officers, Shearman and Taman volunteered to deploy to Iraq to participate in the highly successful but little known U.S. Department of Defense civilian law enforcement advisory program. The Law Enforcement Professionals Program (LEP-P) partnered law enforcement professionals with the U.S. Department of Defense, using their law enforcement skills to enhance military operations overseas.

“The contributions of Mr. Shearman and Mr. Taman to further the professional development and scope of law enforcement are invaluable both to the law enforcement community and the safety of our nation,“ said Memorial Fund  CEO Marcia C. Ferranto. “Their teamwork and partnership with our U.S. military make them especially worthy of a Hero Award.”

Using their law enforcement investigative skills, Shearman and Taman’s programs were implemented in military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Their efforts made a positive impact on finding and neutralizing threats to U.S. troops overseas and the safety of all U.S. citizens.

“Maglite is extremely supportive of the police officers who risk their lives every day for our safety and will always have their back,” Said Tony Maglica Founder and CEO.  “We are proud to partner in this program with the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund and give back in this way to honor those who serve and protect.”

The book, Outside the Wire in Blue, is available at Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble online.
