Nation’s largest provider of law enforcement training reaches milestone amid COVID-19 pandemic.
Washington, DC— The National Law Enforcement Memorial and Museum proudly congratulates Federal Law Enforcement Trainining Centers (FLETC) on its 50th anniversary. Under the Department of Homeland Security and with oversight for career-long training for law enforcement professionals across more than 90 federal agencies, FLETC is the nation’s largest provider of law enforcement training.
In addition to providing firearms, tactical, driving, and legal training to law enforcement, FLETC’s reach expands beyond U.S. borders through international training and capacity-building activities. FLETC also provides training and tools to state, local, and tribal law enforcement officers. Each year, more than 67,000 law enforcement officers attend in-residence training at FLETC’s facilities in New Mexico, South Carolina, Maryland, and Georgia. The COVID-19 pandemic forced FLETC to temporarily halt training at these facilities in March. Training resumed in June with enhanced health and safety protocols.
“It’s no secret that law enforcement has been on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund CEO Marcia Ferranto. “We whole-heartedly congratulate FLETC on its 50th anniversary and its ability to pivot during this pandemic to keep our officers safe so they in turn, can keep our nation safe.”
In speaking about the organization’s 50th Anniversary, FLETC Director Thomas J. Walters proclaimed, “FLETC is connected to the past, shaped by the present, and preparing for the future.”
