Three Los Angeles (CA) Police Officers extricated trapped pilot following crash on tracks

March 7, 2022 (Washington, D.C.) — The The National Law Enforcement Memorial and Museum (NLEMM) today announced Christopher Aboyte, Damian Castro and Robert Sherock of the Los Angeles Police Department have been named Officers of the Month for January 2022. The three officers rescued a trapped pilot that had crash-landed on railroad tracks in the City of Pacoima, seconds before a train collided with and destroyed the aircraft.

On January 9, 2022, at approximately 2:00 p.m., the three Los Angeles Police Officers responded to the crash after the pilot was forced to make an emergency landing, roughly a block from the LAPD Foothill police station. Putting themselves at risk, they worked to free the pilot, who suffered severe injuries, from the wreck in time to save the pilot’s life.
