Trooper Justin R. Schaffer was struck and killed as he attempted to deploy stop sticks during a high speed chase. The suspect barricaded himself inside his vehicle and was taken into custody. Trooper Schaffer is the 14th law enforcement officer to be killed in a traffic-related incident this year and the first officer fatality from the state of Washington in 2020.

  1. We are very sorry about the loss of Officer Schaffer…..
    (that is the 2nd time this week that someone has struck an officer
    who was setting up those stop sticks… People should be much more
    careful, when police officers are out working like that… And they should
    certainly NOT intentionally strike them ! ). May each loved one. (and the entire
    department) be comforted during this very hard time. With love, from Utah !!

  11. Prayers for Trooper Justin and his family, WSP and Law Enforcement Community and friends. I didn’t know him personally but I know his Dad. He is Chief Of Police for Chehalis, Washington. I heard it was a really horrific scene. My heart breaks for this brave young Trooper and his family and Community. We honor all our fallen Officers during Law Enforcement Week, and Memorial weekend.
