Captain Stanley Curtis Elrod was struck and killed as he was jogging while on duty as part of the department’s physical training program. The suspect was charged with first-degree vehicular homicide and other charges. Captain Elrod is the 34th law enforcement officer to be killed in a traffic-related incident this year and the fifth officer fatality from the state of Georgia in 2020.
