Tyler Brown
Public Safety Worker 1, The Kauai (HI) Police Department
Aloha, my name is Tyler Brown, and I am a Public Safety Worker for the Kauai Police Department. I joined the department in August of 2021, when I was 21 years old, because I wanted to make a difference for good in this world. Growing up on the island of Kauai, I was raised with a strong sense of duty and community, deeply inspired by the legacy of service in my own family.
My father, a sergeant and current detective with the Kauai Police Department, has been my greatest example. Watching him serve with integrity, compassion, and courage inspired me to follow in his footsteps. But my commitment to law enforcement runs even deeper, through five generations of my family. My grandfather served as a sheriff’s deputy with the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office. My great-grandfather also wore the badge as a deputy with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. My great-great-grandfather also served as a warden for the Utah State Prison. Law enforcement truly runs in my blood.
Despite growing up surrounded by the stories and experiences of these incredible men, I learned something surprising when I joined the force: police work is very different from what I thought it would be. No matter how much you believe you understand the job from the outside, you never truly grasp it until you wear the uniform yourself. Every day brings new challenges, new lessons, and new opportunities to serve with heart.
It is an incredible honor to have my story remembered at the National Law Enforcement Memorial Museum. To stand among the men and women who have given so much to protect and serve their communities is both humbling and meaningful. I am proud to carry this legacy forward—not only for my family, but for the people of Kauai who I am privileged to serve.
