Equipment that Saved my Life
As a member of the Emergency Response Team, we were responsible for all high-risk entries. On this occasion, the team was assisting the Department’s Narcotic Team in initiating a narcotic search warrant to locate an armed individual selling narcotics. I was assigned the point man position and entered the residence first after the breach. Once inside, I was confronted by the armed individual who pointed a handgun at my face, firing one round. Luckily the round ricochet off the brim of my Kevlar helmet. If it weren’t for the Kevlar helmet I would have taken the round into my forehead killing me instantly. I’m always very grateful and appreciative of the equipment which saved my life that day.
