Follow Your Dream

Stand With Honor

Emily Fary
Second Lieutenant, Fairfax County (VA) Sheriff’s Office

I wanted to be a Deputy Sheriff since I was eight years old. Growing up, I held on to that dream and ensured I focused in school and stayed on the right path.

With hard work, determination, and support from family and friends, I made that childhood dream a reality and became a Deputy Sheriff in 2008. Since that time, I have had many incredible opportunities not only within my agency, but the in great community I serve.

In October of 2015, I was nominated by my agency and selected as one of the American Jail Association’s “Top 35 Under 35” in corrections. This was an incredible honor for me and is a testament to those who have a dream and are not afraid to work hard.

The most rewarding part of my career is having the opportunity to share my experiences with high school students and talk about positive career and life choices. I encourage everyone to follow your dreams and never give up. You only have one life to live, if you do it right, one is all you will need.
