I began my career, January 1986 with the Vermont State Police Academy. I resigned from VSP to began my career for the next 22 years as a Cranston, R.I. Police Officer/Detective from 1986 to 2008. I became a Detective in 1996 and then into the gang unit in 2005. I retired from Cranston Police in 2008.
I then was hired as a Deputy Sheriff with the Palm Beach Sheriffs Office West Palm Beach, FL. in 2008 for two years and returned to Rhode Island to become an East Providence, RI Police Officer in 2010. I was promoted to Detective in 2016 and retired in 2023.
I then took on a job as a police officer with the Veterans Affairs Police in Providence, RI in 2023 and still continue to work.
I have enjoyed being a police officer and have four (4) brothers who are Police Officers as well. My younger two brothers have since retired from Law Enforcement.
My dad, Rolland R. Grant (Retired & deceased) was an East Providence Police Officer from 1955 until his retirement in 1990. His father, my grandfather, Earl Grant (Retired & deceased) was an East Providence Police Officer from 1933 until 1973.
My mother used to say she believed the reason why we became police officers was due to it being in our blood. It seemed it was inevitable for all of us to become police officers.
I have been involved in a lot of activity, incidents and investigations throughout my years a Police Officer/Detective and I had found it to be a great career and wouldn’t change anything at all. It was fun along the way even though there were sad times, but you get up, brush yourself off and move on.
The only other thing I can say is, IT WENT BY VERY QUICK…
