Lieutenant, Gaithersburg (MD) Police Department
For much of my career I worked in plainclothes. As such, our unit made numerous drug arrests. At this particular point in time I was the sergeant of the plainclothes unit. My younger brother, Shane, was an officer in the same unit (I made him clean my car…a lot!), and my older brother, Chad, was corporal and a K9 handler with our same department. Three brothers, one smaller agency. So this one shift our unit was working a drug case and my brother Chad pulled over a car related to the investigation at our request. He walks up to the driver, and sole occupant, and introduces himself as CORPORAL Eastman. He grabs the drivers license and registration and walks back to his police vehicle. In the meantime, my younger brother Shane walks up to engage the driver in conversation and introduces himself as OFFICER Eastman. At this point, the driver is mildly confused. Soon after, the driver is out of his vehicle and I begin to talk to him. I introduce myself, not knowing about the other introductions, as SERGEANT Eastman. He excitedly exclaims, “Are you guys (expletive) with me?!” This story is as source of great amusement at family functions to this day.
I enjoy this job as much as the day I first started. It has been, and still remains, a true honor to be a part of such a noble profession and to work alongside such great men and women. To do so with my two brothers, well, that is just a ton of icing on a huge cake! My heart goes out to those that gave all, as well to their families and friends. Thank you for reading my story and be safe!
