I was sworn in December of 2009. I started the academy in January 2010. Things were going well until halfway through the academy in which, I had suffered a stroke. I found out the stroke was caused by a very rare cerebral vascular disease, Moya Moya. I was referred to Dr. Steinberg at Stanford University Hospital. He performed two surgeries 5 months after my initial stroke and cleared me for full duty. As a result, my department allowed me to go back to the academy. The town / department gave me a second chance.
