Two police officers, Quigley and Hewitt, were killed during a gun fire exchange with a delinquent punk. Officer Edmond McGinty was recognized as a hero when he shot and apprehended the murderer during the incident. Officer Quigley was Ed’s partner and friend. Heroes all!
Twenty years later, the murderer was released. He had promised revenge against Officer McGinty during his first trial. Life for Ed McGinty and his family was tense and often frightening awaiting the criminal to appear seeking revenge.
After a few months of sleepless nights for Ed, news came that the murderer was arrested for bludgeoning his own mother to death with a hammer. He died in prison.
I hope the public understands and honors the ongoing sacrifice police officers and their families often face due to their service.
