Deputy Sheriff Almendarez was shot and killed after confronting multiple suspects who were in the process of stealing catalytic converters. Deputy Sheriff Almendarez was off-duty and shopping with his wife when he observed people in the parking lot behind his truck. Deputy Sheriff Almendarez then ushered his wife to safety. As Deputy Almendarez confronted the suspects, one of the suspects opened fire on the deputy. Deputy Almendarez then pulled his weapon and two of the suspects were shot. Deputy Almendarez was transported to the hospital where he later died.
