A Rare Opportunity to Immerse in the Law Enforcement Experience!

The Decision Simulator at the National Law Enforcement Museum places visitors in the shoes of an officer, faced with a variety of calls for service.
What outcome will they find?
How will they navigate these challenging scenarios?
Can they rise to the challenge?

Inside the simulation room, Museum visitors are immersed in various situations officers may face on the job. Guided by an instructor with a background in law enforcement, visitors come away with a better understanding of an officer’s decision-making process to assess a situation and either avoid further conflict through de-escalation, or engage appropriate force to ensure safety.

The Technology

This experience features a system many law enforcement officers use for training in the field. The National Law Enforcement Museum uses the InVeris FATS 100P system, which combines 3D marksmanship and judgmental de-escalation training into a compact system. Participants armed with simulated Glock 17 weapons will step into a scenario with outcomes that can be changed based upon a participant’s verbal skills and their use of force. In the field, this system allows an officer to practice de-escalation and marksmanship with a service weapon to keep officers safer when they are faced with situations that may include uses of force. At the Museum, we use this same technology to immerse the visitor in the world of law enforcement to better understand the gravity of an officer’s decision to de-escalate or use force in situations that may threaten public safety, or even the officer’s life.

Instruction

Our instructors in the Decision Simulator bring a wealth of law enforcement experience to the National Law Enforcement Museum and its visitors. All of our instructors are retired law enforcement professionals from a variety of federal, state, and local agencies. Many of our instructors spent a significant period of their careers in positions of leadership and instructional roles, adding to a richness of perspective for the visitor. Their expertise gives our visitors rare and exclusive access to resources usually reserved law enforcement officers themselves.

The Decision Simulator experience features simulated weapons and high-intensity scenarios; visitor discretion is advised. Visitors under the age of 13 will not be permitted to participate.
