On December 21, 1977, Police Officer Bromm was shot by a bank robbery suspect who opened fire on him and his partner, without warning, as they were conducting an unrelated investigation. The suspect was shot and killed by responding officers. A retired cop was killed in the crossfire and two other officers were injured. Officer Bromm was shot twice and was paralyzed from the waist down. The following year, Officer Bromm was awarded the department Medal of Honor. On February 13, 2022, Detective Bromm died due to complications of the gunshot wound and paraplegia.
