Deputy Sheriff Johnson was fatally shot as he attempted to arrest several men who were discharging firearms. His suspected assailant was killed a month later, in an exchange of gunfire, when Helena (GA) Marshal Harman Yancy attempted to arrest him. Marshal Yancey also died.
