Police Officer Montie was shot, in an exchange of gunfire, by a gang who had robbed a bank. The officers were investigating a robbery that had occurred the day before when they knocked down the door of a shack only to find the gang counting piles of money, approximately $6,000. Patrolman Montie was shot in the chest and died at the scene. One suspect was killed and six suspects were arrested.
