Deputy Zeigler suffered a medical emergency while participating in a mandatory training. He was engaged in the physical fitness run required by the Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy (OPOTA) when he collapsed. Deputy Zeigler was transported to a hospital and passed away two days later on May 26, 2023 from exertional heatstroke.
