Volunteer Opportunities
Museum Guides
Commitment:
Training:
Attendance at a 6-week training course is mandatory for all Museum Guides. During training, volunteers are introduced to the Museum’s collection, policies, and staff structure while also learning skills to engage with our visitors. After the initial day of training is complete, Museum Guides will undergo continuous training on storytelling, museum best practices, and more.
Program Facilitators
Volunteer Facilitators will lead the museum’s Activity Cart program which is designed to offer additional educational engagement to general admission audiences on the exhibit floor. Facilitators will lead a series of activities and demonstrations created to deepen the visitor’s understanding of various aspects of law enforcement and forensic science already discussed in museum exhibitions. Volunteer Facilitators will also assist with educational workshops in the museum’s classroom for groups who book the experience ahead of time.
Commitment:
Volunteers must be able to commit to at least one year of service to the museum and regularly assist with Activity Carts and educational workshops on general admission days.
Training:
All Program Facilitators will receive a package of activity plans designed for the Museum’s Activity Cart and educational workhshops. These activity plans will be used during their participation in a mandatory, hands-on training process. During training, the volunteers will work directly with the Museum’s education team to gain comfort with activity materials, education procedures and policies, and interacting with visitors.
Visitor Experience Volunteers
Visitor Experience Volunteers welcome and assist visitors on the exhibit floor during general admission days. These volunteers are essential to daily operations at the Museum, as they regularly interact with visitors. Visitor Experience Volunteers are experts on what the Museum has to offer and are up to date on exhibitions and programming.
Commitment:
Training:
There is one required training Visitor Experience Volunteers must attend. During training, volunteers are introduced to the Museum’s collection, policies, and staff structure while also learning skills to engage with our visitors.
