Berrien County (MI) Sheriff's Office

State: MI

Overview

Since 2008, each Berrien County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) division deputy is issued a personal ANSI compliant visibility vest; deputies wear their vest when they are directing traffic, investigating a crash, handling lane closures, obstructed roadways or disasters within the right-of-way of any road or highway.

The Personnel also are required to carry Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs); they are used exclusively by department personnel who have received both CPR and AED training in the past year. Additionally, each qualified member of the department receives individual first aid kits (IFAKs) and are trained on the use of Naloxone Hydrochloride annually.

To address the needs of both the BCSO Tactical Response Team members and civilians the BCSO has implemented a TEMS (Tactical Emergency Medical Services) program; a tactically trained physician and tactically trained Emergency Medical Technicians are deployed with Tactical Response Unit members. The TEMS physicians and Emergency Medical Technicians attend all monthly training programs the Tactical Response Unit members participate in.
